By Henry Mancini
“The Pink Panther Theme” is the theme composed by Henry Mancini for the 1963 Blake Edwards film of the same title.
The winds play a leading role in the song, although the saxophone, played by Plas John Johnson Jr. in the original recording, steals the show when it gets to the main theme. The drums and the triangle also give a special character to the piece. This piece may not have won the Oscar for which it was nominated (the award went to the Mary Poppins soundtrack instead), but The Pink Panther is indisputably one of the most well-known themes in film music.

Arrangement Details
It’s very easy to know which composition this is, just when you hear the ride in the beginning, the hi-hat cymbals or the marimba. As the piece goes on the unpitched percussion keep playing, as the mallets build the melody.
The arrangement available here includes the following instruments:
- Glockenspiel
- Xylophone
- Vibraphone
- Marimba (2 players)
- Timpani
- Ride
- Hi hat Cymbals
Although the first marimba plays two voices, the arrangement is generally moderately easy, and middle level students can easily play it. After all, this theme is such a favorite that it is a good challenge to study!
