“Give Peace a Chance” is an anti-war song written by John Lennon and released as a single in July 1969 by the Plastic Ono Band.
It was the first solo single released by Lennon while he was still a member of the Beatles, and became an anthem of the American anti-war movement during the 1970s.
Note
The third verse normally contains a reference to masturbation, but Lennon changed this to “mastication” on the official lyric sheet (although he later regretted it). This is also a word that’s hard to make out in the song.
In order to be able to present this song to kids as a peace song, we, as a website with resources mostly for kids, have used the kid-friendly word both in the lyrics and in the PDF file with lyrics provided on this page.
If the listeners are underage and you, as a parent or educator, have concerns about the use of the word “masturbation” in the recording, listen to the song first (at 1:19 in the video) or refrain from playing the song to children whatsoever.

Lyrics
Two, one-two-three-four!
Ev’rybody’s talking ’bout
Bagism, Shagism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, Tagism
This-ism, that-ism, is-m, is-m, is-m
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
Hit it

Ministers, sinisters, banisters and canisters
Bishops and Fishops and Rabbis and Popeyes and bye-bye, bye-byes
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
Let me tell you now
Ev’rybody’s talking ’bout
Revolution, evolution, mastication, flagellation, regulation, integrations*
Meditations, United Nations, congratulations
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
Ev’rybody’s talking ’bout
John and Yoko, Timmy Leary, Rosemary, Tommy Smothers, Bobby Dylan, Tommy Cooper
Derek Taylor, Norman Mailer, Alan Ginsberg, Hare Krishna, Hare, Hare Krishna
