Huachi Torito

Although its Spanish lyrics may sound like an issue for English speakers, “Huachi Torito” is the easiest among Christmas Songs of South American origin.

Sing the chorus in Spanish and the English version for the stanza: “Little baby in the manger/you’ll be worshipped from afar/but I’m poor, I have no presents/so I offer you my heart”. Kids will love the tune and will keep singing it all year round – rest assured!

English lyrics (Copyright: Singing Bell)

Huachi to-, torito,
torito del corralito**
Huachi to-, torito,
torito del corralito.

Little baby in the manger
you’ll be worshiped from afar
but I’m poor, I have no presents
so I offer you my heart

Huachi to-, torito,
torito del corralito
Huachi to-, torito,
torito del corralito.

From the tree we get the branches
From a branch you’ll have a flower
From a flower, Mother Mary
And from her Your higher power.

Huachi to-, torito,
torito del corralito
Huachi to-, torito,
torito del corralito.

Huachi to-, torito,
torito del corralito
Huachi to-, torito,
torito del corralito.

Oh, Come, Little Children

This German song was translated into English by Melanie Schulte (1885-1922).

Its lyrics refer to the new-born Jesus in the manger, where the angels, the shepherds, Mary and Joseph meet with love and serenity.

Lyrics

1. Oh, come, little children, oh, come, one and all,
To Bethlehem’s stable, in Bethlehem’s stall.
And see with rejoicing this glorious sight,
Our Father in heaven has sent us this night.

2. Oh, see in the manger, in hallowed light
A star throws its beam on this holiest sight.
In clean swaddling clothes lies the heavenly Child,
More lovely than angels, this Baby so mild.

3. Oh, there lies the Christ Child, on hay and on straw;
The shepherds are kneeling before Him with awe.
And Mary and Joseph smile on Him with love,
While angels are singing sweet songs from above.

Jolly Old Saint Nicholas

Saint Nicholas might be old, but he is a jolly good fellow that has something to whisper in your eat. What will your Christmas gift be?

Evey kid has something different to ask for, but it’s up to him in the end!

Lyrics

1. Jolly old St. Nicholas, lean your ear this way!
Don’t you tell a single soul what I’m going to say.
Christmas Eve is coming soon! Now, you dear old man.
Whisper what you’ll bring to me; Tell me if you can.

2. When the clock is striking twelve. When I’m fast asleep,
Down the chimney broad and black, with your pack you’ll creep.
All the stockings you will see hanging in a row;
Mine will be the shortest ones – you’ll be sure to know.

3. Johnny wants a pair of skates, Susy wants a dolly,
Nelly wants a story book – she thinks dolls a folly.
As for me, my little brain never was the wisest.
Choose for me, old Santa Claus, what you think is nicest.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Although rather demanding when it comes to playing its sheet music, this song’s melody is as playful as little Rudolph would be.

Kids love this tune’s music and lyrics. Enjoy this in Singing Bell’s arrangement for kids!

Lyrics

You know Dasher and Dancer, and Prancer and Vixen
Comet and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall, the most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer,
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it,
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
“Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”

Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
“Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,
You’ll go down in history”

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer,
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
“Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”

Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
“Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,
You’ll go down in history”

Jingle Bells

There is no need to introduce one of the most popular Christmas songs ever!

James Lord Pierpont’s 1857 composition “Jingle Bells” became one of the most performed and most recognizable secular holiday songs ever written, not only in the United States, but around the world, as it has been translated into various languages.

Lyrics

1. Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

2. A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

3*. A day or two ago,
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow,
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away.

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

4. Now the ground is white
Go it while you’re young,
Take the girls tonight
and sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bobtailed bay
Two forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you’ll take the lead.

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

*: often skipped

Oh, Christmas Tree

Let us sing, dance and paint the most beautiful fir tree in the world. A Christmas tree full of gifts, love and music.

Lyrics

1. O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us!
They are green when summer days are bright,
They are green when winter snow is white.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us!

2. O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
How oft at Christmas tide the sight,
O green fir tree, gives us delight!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!

3. O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
Forever true your colour.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
Forever true your colour.
Your boughs so green in summertime
Stay bravely green in wintertime.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
Forever true your colour.

4. O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
You fill my heart with music.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
You fill my heart with music.
Reminding me on Christmas Day
To think of you and then be gay.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
You fill my heart with music.

The Little Drummer Boy

Can it be Christmas without the little drummer who drums to the beat of our heart?

Even if little ones don’t learn the lyrics to the entire song, they will be glad to follow “pa rum pum pum pum” by beating on a little drum or simply their hands on a box.

Lyrics

1. Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

So to meet Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.

2. Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That’s fit to give a king, par rum pum pum
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?

3. Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

That’s one of the few Christmas songs that makes reference to the celebration of the New Year, so toddlers can sing this on New Year’s Eve, too.

If the traditional lyrics to We Wish You a Merry Christmas seem a bit difficult to preschoolers, try substituting the choruses with call-to-action lyrics like “Let’s all do a little clapping“, “Let’s all do a little stomping“, etc.

Lyrics

1. We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year!

2. Oh, bring us a figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding and a cup of good cheer.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year!

3. We won’t go until we get some,
We won’t go until we get some,
We won’t go until we get some, so bring some out here.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year!

4. We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Frosty The Snowman

Lyrics

1. Frosty the snowman
Was a jolly happy soul
With a corncob pipe
And a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal

2. Frosty the snowman
Is a fairy tale they say
He was made of snow
But the children know
How he came to life one day

There must have been some magic
In that old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around

3. Frosty the snowman
Was alive as he could be
And the children say
He could laugh and play
Just the same as you and me

4. Frosty the snowman
Knew the sun was hot that day
So he said, “Let’s run
And we’ll have some fun
Now before I melt away”

5.Down to the village
With a broomstick in his hand
Running here and there
All around the square
Saying “Catch me if you can”

He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop
And he only paused a moment when
He heard him holler “Stop!”

6. Frosty the snowman
Had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye saying,
“Don’t you cry
I’ll be back again some day”

Thumpity, thump, thump
Thumpity, thump, thump
Look at Frosty go

Thumpity, thump, thump
Thumpity, thump, thump
Over the hills of snow
