Gospel Songs for Mother's Day

She is the person who loved us and prayed for us before we were even born. She gave us the gift of life, and God gave her the gift of motherhood. For nine months we lived in the same body and with His blessing we managed to come to earth.

It is no coincidence that so many artists were inspired music and lyrics about mothers. Sometimes writing about their own mother, sometimes paralleling her with the mother of Jesus and sometimes praising motherly love in general.

In the list below we have selected 16 songs for you that connect the person who has taken on the role of mother with a Christian message. Also gospel music, which by definition includes hymns, has dozens of songs dedicated to this unique woman. In order not to get lost in the research, we suggest a collection of videos and lyrics that can be sung not only by adults but also by children and teenagers.

Every day she deserves a hug and a “thank you”. On the day of her celebration, however, which is set for the second Sunday of May, give her a flower and a song. Choose from the collection below, learn the lyrics and sing with her!

I Love My Mom (Yancy) with Lyrics

I love my Mom
God knit me together in he womb
She was the first I heard say
“I love you”

I love my Mom
She gives hugs and hold my hand
Say’s she’s trying
The best that she can

I love my Mom
God gave me my Mom
He chose her for me
I trust in his plan
And the people He gave to me

I love my Mom
From my head to my itty bitty toes
When she says
“Brush your teeth and clean your nose”

I love my Mom
With a goodnight kiss and a prayer
She’s the best Mom of anywhere

I love my Mom
God gave me my Mom
He chose her for me
I trust in his plan
And the people He gave to me

I love my Mom
And her care for
My heart as it grew
Teaching me right from wrong
And what is true

I love my Mom
She chose life
And gave me a home
When the years speed by
And I’m grown
Still, I’ll love my Mom

Faith Of Our Mothers (Hymn)

Faith of our mothers, living still
In cradle song and bedtime prayer;
In nursery lore and fireside love,
Thy presence still pervades the air.
Faith of our mothers, living faith,
We will be true to thee till death.

Faith of our mothers, loving faith,
Fount of our childhood’s trust and grace,
Oh, may thy consecration prove
Source of a finer, nobler race;
Faith of our mothers, loving faith,
We will be true to thee till death.

Faith of our mothers, guiding faith,
For youthful longing, youthful doubt,
How blurred our vision, blind our way,
Thy providential care without.
Faith of our mothers, guiding faith,
We will be true to thee till death.

Faith of our mothers, Christian faith,
In truth beyond our stumbling creeds,
Still serve the home and save the Church,
And breathe thy spirit through our deeds;
Faith of our mothers, Christian faith,
We will be true to thee till death.

More Than Enough (Shawna Edwards)

Maybe I’ll never know the love it takes
To make me a happy home that’s warm and safe
And maybe I’ll never see how you pray for my every need
And wonder what more you could do for me

But when you walk by my side
Read me stories at night
And teach me to trust in God’s love
You give me a hug, maybe two
And you say, “I love you”
Then I think you’re doing enough

Maybe you wonder if you’re teaching me
Every good thing that I can someday be
But all that I know of faith
And of kindness and love and strength
I’ve learned just by watching you every day

So when you stay by my side
Hear me stories at night
And teach me to trust in God’s love
You give me a hug, maybe two
And you say, “I love you”
Then I think you’re doing enough

Someday, I’ll have a home, a family
And I’ll love them just as much as you love me
Then maybe you’ll finally see
You have given enough for me
A gift that will last through eternity

So when you stay by my side
Hear my stories at night
And teach me to trust in God’s love
You give me a hug, maybe two
And you say, “I love you”
Then I think you’re more than enough
And I’m blessed every step by your love

A Mother’s Love (Gena Hill)

She gave me life
Showed me what was right
Taught me not to fight the battles
That weren’t worth the fight
Right from the start
She held me close
And as time went on
She was strong enough to let me go

There’s nothing you can do
That will change her love for you
When the world comes crashing down
Her love will pull you through

There’s nothing you can say
That will take her love away
Through the heartache and the pain
It was her love that still remained
Her love
Is gonna shine through everything
There’s nothing in the world
Like a mother’s love

She filled every need
Made my life complete
Time and time again
She was with me to the end
She’ll believe your dreams
However hard they seem
When you’d almost given up
She was there to lift you up

There’s nothing you can do
That will change her love for you
When the world comes crashing down
Her love will pull you through

There’s nothing you can say
That will take her love away
Through the heartache and the pain
It was her love that still remained
Her love
Is gonna shine through everything
There’s nothing in the world
Like a mother’s love

And she would do it all again
For the chance to help you win
She was the one who gave it all
She was the one through every fall

There’s nothing you can do
That will change her love for you
When the world comes crashing down
Her love will pull you through

There’s nothing you can say
That will take her love away
Through the heartache and the pain
It was her love that still remained
Her love
Is gonna shine through everything
There’s nothing in the world
Like a mother’s love

A Mother’s Prayer (Celine Dion)

Can we touch the soul of heaven
Can we unite a sacred lesson
Every child creates a skylight of beauty
Can you hear cathedrals falling
All the universe is calling
Cry a single cello from your heart

Since the world has lost her way
Loneliness journey, endlessly
Yet the promised chance remains
Gift of what could be

So let the children remember the sun
Let them dance, let them soar
For their lives have begun
Let the children engender the rain
As the river runs through fields
Forever subsiding their pain
Prayer

Every voice along the shoreline
Standing still within time
Spinnin’ unresolved
Walking as each season passes
Through wonderland, through walking glasses
A secret garden shines, beckons you
Gentle flower don’t fade away
Sweet innocence still harbors thee
In the faint of golden dreams
Where one love lives eternally

Let the children remember the sun
Let them dance, let them soar
For their lives have begun
Let the children engender the rain
As the river runs through fields
Forever subsiding their pain
Prayer, prayer

Bless the children for they are the light
They are the truth of spirit in flight
Yes the children engender the rain
As the river runs through life
Healing their pain
If you could trust with your heart one more time
Sweet angel conceived
You have forever and always believed,
Prayer

Prayer, oh, prayer

A Mother’s Love (Jim Brickman)

Thank you for watching over me
All of the sleepless nights you lay awake
Thank you for knowing when to hold me close
When to let me go

Thank you for every stepping stone
And for the path that always leads me home
I thank you for the time you took
To see the heart inside of me

You gave me the roots to start this life
And then you gave me wings to fly
And I learned to dream
Because you believed in me

There’s no power like it on this earth
No treasure equal to its worth
The gift of a mother’s love

Thank you for every sunlit day
That filled the corners of my memory
Thank you for every selfless unsung deed
I know you did for me

Thank you for giving me the choice
To search my soul till I could find my voice
And I thank you for teaching me
To be strong enough to bend

You gave me the roots to start this life
And then you gave me wings to fly
And I learned to dream
Because you believed in me

There’s no power like it on this earth
No treasure equal to its worth
The gift of a mother’s love

I thank God for a mother’s love

While You Were Holding Me (Jasmine Murray)

While you were holding me
You were praying prayers that only mamas do
While you were holding me
You were fighting battles your babies never knew
And I never knew ’til now just how strong you were
Drying all my tears while fighting yours

All that darkness you lived through
Couldn’t dim the light inside of you
All the broken pieces
You kept giving them to Jesus
And He gave you strength to raise me up
Knowing one day I would see
He was holding you
While you were holding me

While you were holding me
You were showing what it means to live by faith
And you taught me to believe
There is hope even in the deepest pain
I remember every day

All that darkness you lived through
Couldn’t dim the light inside of you
All the broken pieces
You kept giving them to Jesus
And He gave you strength to raise me up
Knowing one day I would see
He was holding you
While you were holding me

Oh, you spent so many hours, down upon your knees
Shaking on the gates of heaven, calling angels down for me
So selflessly you gave, made me who I am today
And I never knew ’til now, just how strong you were

All that darkness you lived through
Couldn’t dim the light inside of you
All the broken pieces
You kept giving them to Jesus
And He gave you strength to raise me up
Knowing one day I would see
He was holding you
He was holding you
While you were holding me
You were holding me

Thank You Mom (Susan G. Acheson)

I want you to know how much I love you
You gave me life and taught me how to live
And when I think of all the times we shared
And when I think of just how much you cared
I give this song to you

Thank you for all the times you wiped away my tears
Thank you for all the times you calmed all my fears
Thank you for all the times you held me by my hand
Thank you for being there when I needed a friend
I thank you….

I want you to know how much I’ll miss you
But I know I’ll see you once again
We’ll walk the streets of gold up in heaven
We’ll laugh and dance and worship him together
For eternity

Thank you for all the times you wiped away my tears
Thank you for all the times you calmed all my fears
Thank you for all the times you held me by my hand
Thank you for being there when I needed a friend
I thank you….

I love you…

I thank you…

Guardian Angel (Leah West)

Little baby up in heaven says to God
“Do I really have to go?”
God replies “Yes it’s your time to leave
But don’t you worry you won’t be there alone

You see there’s someone who’s been waiting for you
Quietly hoping and praying
For your sweet and safe arrival
Down on earth

Everyone is born with a guardian angel
And on her wings she’ll let you soar
Higher than you thought was possible
She’ll love you and protect you like no other
And your guardian angel has a name
You can call her mother

As you grow and make your way on through the world
She’ll be a softer light to guide you on your way
Instilling bits of wisdom like arrows in your quiver
To help with all the challenges that you’ll have to face

Rest assured that no matter where you are
You’ll be surrounded by her love
A gentle support to help you keep your faith
You’re always in her heart and who she’s thinking of

The sacrifices that she will make
To put you first when everything’s at stake
How all that she’s devoted
Until now you never noticed
She was showing you
How to be a guardian angel too

The sacrifices that she will make
To put you first when everything’s at stake
How all that she’s devoted
Until now you never noticed
She was showing you
How to be a guardian angel too

Mama I Love You (Maa Dwoa)

You have been there for me
Through all the bad times and good
I love that you have
Been a
Shoulder to lean on always
I have little to give but this song
With a grateful heart I sing

Mama I love you
You are my world
You have been strength in my weakness
I cherish you so much
For being my guide
Mama I love you

Mama I love you
You are my world
You have been strength in my weakness
I cherish you so much
For being my guide
Mama I love you

Mama you’ve been through much
To see me grow to be the very best
You had to sacrifice your joy
Your comfort you gave up for me
I see the pain in your eyes but you hide
Just so you can keep my smile

Mama I love you
You are my world
You have been strength in my weakness
I cherish you so much
For being my guide
Mama I love you

Mama I love you
You are my world
You have been strength in my weakness
I cherish you so much
For being my guide
Mama I love you

Beside Mother (Willie Banks & The Messengers)

Everyday Is Like Mother’s Day (Shirley Caesar)

Every day feels like Mother’s Day
She is with me in my heart
I can often hear, hear my mother’s voice
We will never ever be apart

I never can forget on Christmas morning
When my family we will all gather around our house
Mama will sit over there in her big old rocking chair
She would speak so softly and so kind yeah yeah yes
Lord I thank you I thank you for all my children
Every one of them yes you gave each one of them to me
So I try to be a very good mother
I even forgot I forgot all about my needs
(You know what church)

Every day feels like Mother’s Day
She is with me in my heart
I can often hear hear my mother’s voice
We will never ever be apart

She gave me my start (gave me my start)
I’m gonna keep her in my heart (here to my heart)
My love for my mother (it will never depart)
Mama showed me the right way (showed me the way)
By the path that she laid (by the path she laid)
I think about my mother (everyday)
Mama gave me her love (gave me her love)
Then when she went on to glory on the wings (wings of a dove)
Now she’s looking down on me (from up above)
She’s looking down on me

Every day feels like Mother’s Day
She is with me in my heart
I can often hear hear my mother’s voice
We will never ever be apart

I Remember Mama (Shirley Caesar)

I remember Mama
And the love that she gave
Kneeling by her bed side
I can still hear Mama say

“The people are depending on you, Shirley
Don’t you let them down”

I remember Mama in a happy way
We went to school with holes in our shoes
We didn’t have much but the Lord saw us through
Mama kept the family together
I remember Mama in a happy way

She packed our lunch in an old greasy bag
It might’ve seemed empty
But it was more than others had
It had a lot of love way down deep inside, yes it did yeh and
I remember Mama in a happy way
I remember Mama in a happy way

Now Mama is sleeping in the bosom of Jesus Christ
Somehow I know she’s smiling, she’s smiling on us right now
One day I’ll see her again, how happy I will be
I remember Mama in a happy way
I remember Mama in a happy way

My brothers and sisters, they’re living far apart
Although my Mama is gone, she’s right here in our hearts
We’re all gonna pull together and stay in the holy place
I remember Mama in a happy way
I remember Mama in a happy way

“Allelujah!”
And I remember Mama (in a happy way)
I remember mama (I remember Mama in a happy way)
I remember mama (I remember Mama in a happy way)
I remember my mama (I remember Mama in a happy way)

Tears That Mama Cried (Candi Staton)

Somebody Prayed For Me (Dorothy Norwood)

Somebody prayed for me, had me on their mind,
They took the time and prayed for me.
I’m so glad they prayed
I’m so glad they prayed for me.
My mother prayed for me, had me on her mind,
She took the time and prayed for me.
I’m so glad she prayed
I’m so glad she prayed for me.
The preacher prayed for me had me on his mind,
He took the time and prayed for me.
I’m so glad he prayed
I’m so glad he prayed for me.
